The December Bulletin of the American College of Surgeons reports on the annually updated proposed payment rates form the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
The following are discussed:
- The 2012 calendar year fee schedule, despite application of the sustainable growth rate formula determined by congress, will likely result in lower physician payments.
- Laparoscopic cholecystectomy and inguinal hernia repair are high-expenditure procedures for CMS, and are referred for review by the AMA Relative Value Scale Update Committee.
- CMS proposes changes in the Physician Quality Reporting System and the Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program.
